Smart Travel Asia, an online travel site based in Hong Kong, ranked Bangkok at the top of its“2013 Best Holiday Destinations” list.

Based on a poll of online readers, Bangkok moved up from fifth place a year ago to first place, this year, in the category best city holiday destination.

It was ranked fourth in the category of top cities for business.

Smart Travel Asia’s Pidichanan Petchngovilai, regional advertising manager, presents the Bangkok award to TAT’s executive director of advertising and public relations division, Sugree Sithivanich.

The award was presented to Tourism Authority of Thailand represented by Sugree Sithivanich, executive director of the advertising and public relations division at TAT Head office.

“Compared to its rivals capital cities in other countries in ASEAN, Bangkok is a versatile city, able to cater to the various needs of travellers,” said Mr Sugree.

Smart Travel’s advertising manager Pidichanan Petchngovilai noted that Phuket and Samui Island were also high in the rankings. Phuket came in at third place and Samui ninth.

Smart Travel Asia’s 2013 travel poll ran from May to July. It claims its voters took an average of 12.32 air trips and earned on average US$156,307. Their viewpoints were based on experience of the product, feedback from friends and colleagues, and visibility of the brand in their browsing space.
