BANGKOK : Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ Thailand Film Office Department reported, Tuesday, a record Bt1,710.60 million in earrnings from on-location film shoots in Thailand during January to November.
Overseas film productions, shot in Thailand, are considered a valuable source of revenue as well a tool to build awareness for the country’s tourism business.
The department reported there were 596 films, documentaries, advertising, TV series, and music video filmed on location in Thailand. They generated Bt1,710.60 million in tourism related revenue compared to 570 productions and circulated Bt1,116.84 million during the same period last year.
Of the 596 productions, there were 112 documentaries, 299 advertising, 96 television programmes, 38 music video productions, and 51 films.
Japanese film makers topped the list in the first 11 months of the year with 135 productions followed by 119 from India, 96 from Europe, 33 from Hong Kong, 32 from South Korea, 27 from the United States, 23 from China, six from Australia, one from Taiwan, and the rest 124 from others.
In November, there were 70 productions that generated Bt135.95 million compared to 38 productions that circulated Bt69.28 million during the same month last year.
Of 70 productions, there were 18 documentaries, 22 advertising, 14 television programmes, and eight each for music video productions and film.
Japanese production teams also led the field in November with 17 productions followed by 16 from India, 14 from Europe, five from China, four from US, one each from South Korea, Hong Kong, and Australia, and 11 from other countries.
